Eucharistic Adoration

What is Eucharistic Adoration?

Eucharistic Adoration or Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is a form of prayer than began centuries ago. The word adoration means ”to pay honour or homage to someone or something.” The same Jesus, whom we receive in the Eucharist at Mass, is who we worship in Adoration.

Adoration is a time to sit face to face with Jesus and deepen and strengthen your relationship with Him.

Adoration is a great form of prayer which will equip us for our lives. Adoration is a time to experience God. During adoration we are sitting face t face with God, the same God who created you, the same God who is always pursuing you and the same God who loves you.

Adoration is a time of healing, so if you’re stressed, if you’re anxious, depressed or not at peace then spending just 5 minutes in adoration will help to heal you.

Time spent with Jesus

‘The time you spend with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the best time you will spend on earth. Each moment that you spend with Jesus will deepen your union with Him and make your soul everlastingly more glorious and beautiful in Heaven, and will help bring about everlasting peace on earth.’

Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Adoration at St. Mary of the Angels

As part of our Eucharistic journey, we have been working closely with our school parish to improve opportunities for the children in Key Stage 2 to experience adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

Margaret Wickware, our parish catechist, and Fr.Keith paid a visit to Year 6 to talk about the Eucharist and prepare pupils for a visit to the Church. The children were then given the opportunity to adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament for a few minutes, with prayers led by Margaret and Fr.Keith.

This is what some of our Year 6 pupils had to say about their experience-

'I like Eucharistic Adoration because it is a time when we get to reflect on the Host who is Jesus. We heard prayers from Fr. Keith and Margaret.'  David

'I found the Eucahristic Adoration to be very cleansing and peaceful. It was so nice to be in Church and quietly worship and adore the Host or Jesus.' Kaia

'Yesterday, we went to Church to do Eucharistic Adoration and I felt very close to Jesus and I felt connected to God.'  Tiziana

How do I pray during Adoration?

There are many ways to pray during Adoration; however the top suggested way is to just simply sit in silence, say, and do nothing. Think of a visit to the Eucharistic Adoration as coming to see your best friend. Sit quietly and enjoy being in each other's company. Instead of talking to the Lord, try listening to what He wants to tell you.

You could read a short passage from the Bible and think about how it applies to you.

Pray The Rosary. Mary gave us this amazing form of prayer and it is a great way to help us to focus on Jesus during adoration.

Another great and popular method of prayer is to journal, this is simply writing down your prayers in a nice book to look upon later in the year.
