St. Mary of the Angels Lenten Challenge 2024

Ash Wednesday (14th February) marks the beginning of Lent.

This year at St Mary of the Angels, we have been inspired by Pope Francis' letter Fratelli Tutti.

In Fratelli Tutti, Pope Francis calls on us to take action and looks at one parable in particular - The Good Samaritian. Pope Francis sets us a challenge:

“Each day we have to decide whether to be Good Samaritans or indifferent bystanders . . . Will we bend down and help another get up? This is today’s challenge, and we should not be afraid to face it.”

This Lent, we are asking you and your families to take on this challenge to act now and become a Good Samaritan.

One way of doing this, is by using our Interactive Calendar. You can download it below and click on the blue boxes to write down what you are doing to help others this Lent.

Stations of the Cross

The solemn season of Lent is marked by three pillars of spiritual practice: prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Lent recalls the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert, battling temptation.

Each Friday, you and your families could pray the 3 Stations of the Cross together. The Stations of the Cross is a form of prayer used traditionally in Lent. Each of the 14 Stations retells part of Jesus’ Passion (his suffering and death) through images and words. You could make a small prayer space in your house, or play some calm music in the background.
