Ten Ten Parent Newsletter March 2022: Our Pilgrimage to the Cross

Throughout Lent, we have a six part ‘mini-series’ within the Ten Ten Year of Pilgrimage, which leads children from Ash Wednesday to Jesus’ death on the cross on Good Friday. These six assemblies make up the first ‘stopping place’ that you see on the Pilgrimage Map.

During the week of Ash Wednesday (2nd March), children recalled that a pilgrimage is a special journey we go on to deepen our faith in God and remembered the four purposes of the Ten Ten Year of Pilgrimage (prayer, penance, solidarity and charity). Then they were introduced to two child Pilgrimage Guides, who introduced them to the Lent mini-series, Our Pilgrimage to the Cross.

Each week of Lent introduces a new clue to help children understand the Gospel and how they can grow in faith through Looking to God, Looking to Ourselves, and Looking to Others. Their learning each week is supported through reflections from the Pilgrimage Guides. We want children, staff and families alike to feel involved in the Ten Ten Year of Pilgrimage, so if you want to dive deeper, read this article:

Ten Ten Parent Newsletter February 2022: Put Out Into The Deep

In the Gospel for the week commencing 7th February, Jesus tells Peter to do something unexpected. Peter could have chosen to resist, or quiz Jesus on His rationale, but instead he chooses to trust Jesus. This can encourage us, that even when we don’t fully understand, even when we are facing uncertainty, we can choose to place our trust in Jesus and ‘put out into the deep’. This newsletter shares some of the content children will experience in school and suggests ways for you to engage with them about it. We hope and pray that you and your family will be inspired through the power of Jesus words and actions to trust in Him regardless of what may come.

A 15th Century proverb suggested that ‘children should be seen and not heard’ – a viewpoint shared by many societies since. But Jesus’ attitude is very different. In the week commencing 4th October, children heard how Jesus went beyond just welcoming children to Him: He held them up as an example of open-heartedness that everyone could learn from!

October's newsletter shares some of the content children have experienced in school and suggests ways for you to engage with them about it. We hope and pray that through reading and sharing, you will be inspired by the open-heartedness of your own child!
