Herons Class (JK/Year 6)

Hello and well done for such a fantastic first week back at school Year 6!

We have had a busy and fun time learning about resilience and strategies for positive mental health, which we can apply to many aspects of our life. We have started learning about inheritance in Science and had many interesting conversations about features that are inherited and characteristics that are influenced by the environment. We have also started creating some artwork inspired by our learning of the Ancient Egyptians that I look forward to displaying.

I have really enjoyed getting to know you and look forward to our journey and year of learning together. You have really stepped up to the responsibilities of year 6 with your class jobs, and I feel we are going to be great team! Well done for settling into school life so quickly.

Please look at the message below for a task I'd like you to complete over the weekend.

Have a restful and family-filled weekend!

Miss Wakley

Maths Homework - 23.09.20

Due Date: Friday 25th September 2020

Welcome to your first proper week of Maths homework! :)

Each week we will focus on an area of Maths that we have been learning about in class. In the last 2 weeks we have been learning about place value, particularly rounding numbers and negative numbers.

Please complete the worksheets below on rounding numbers and negative numbers. You can write your answers in your blue homework book, or print off the sheets if you have a printer.

There are 3 different levels of sheets, so choose the sheet Miss Wakley has recommended for you. You can self-mark your work after it is complete, or ask someone in your house to do it for you (an adult or older sibling). Please remember unfortunately you can't bring your completed homework back in on Friday.

If you found your homework too tricky though, don't panic, we will go over the Maths homework together on Friday :)

  • Watch the 'rounding rap' to remind you of the rules - Click here to watch the rap
  • Look at the rounding rules document below
  • Use the negative numbers numberline attached below

Science Homework - 18.09.20

Due Date: Monday 21st September 2020

The Peppered Moth

Our Science unit of study this term is ‘Evolution and inheritance.’ The evolution of the peppered moth has been studied in detail over the last 150 years. At first, almost all of the moths were light coloured, however overtime the population of moths became darker in colouring.

We want you to investigate why these changes happened. Please use the questions on the sheet below to guide you in your research.

You can present your information as an information leaflet, a word document or complete it in your homework book. You will need to use the internet to help you find the information. You may want to add some pictures to your work. Please try and complete your work independently. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to bring your work in to be marked.
