Amazing Animals: Tuesday 29th March 2022

On Tuesday we had a very exciting day in the Kingfishers and Goldfinches class when Tim Maynard and his Mini Zoo visited the school. He really showcased these wonderful creatures and highlighted their importance in the Natural World. We got the opprtuniy to touch a millipede, frog, tarantula, chameleon and some even had the snake around their necks!

'I loved  it when the snake went on my neck it made me look like I had a moustache' - Meeti

'I liked it when the snake went around my neck and stroking the tarantula because it was so soft!' - Sienna-Blue

'I liked the frog because it had a little jelly belly. It felt just like jelly!' - Shagaf

'I want the bugs to come back! The best bit was the snake because I never knew they were so long and cold!' - Scarlett

Monday 28th March 2022

What better way to mark the end of our Spring term than with an Easter Bonnet Parade! Well done to everyone for your home-made efforts. There were some great bonnets and our judges were set the very difficult challenge to find our 2022 winners!

STEAM WEEK

St Mary of the Angels have been celebrating STEAM week which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths. This year's British Science Week theme is 'growth'. We have found examples of growth within all subjects around us, making it an excellent starting point for a celebration of SCIENCE. Continue sending in your posters based on this theme for our school competition. Your poster could explore a tadpole's journey into a fully grown adult frog or a seed's growth journey into a beautiful flower. We are looking forward to seeing your ideas!

We also visited the Science Museum, taking part in Pattern Pod. It was fantastic!

More photos to follow.

World Book Day: Thursday 3rd March 2022

In 2022, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of ‘World Book Day’ – with the message for all children ‘you are a reader’! Our day was filled with lot of exciting activities to promote reading in our school. We ended our day with a fantastic world book day parade where we got to see everyone’s amazing costumes. Well done everyone for putting in so much effort into your costumes. You all looked fantastic!

Maths Activities: Friday 4th February 2022

This week we have been learning all about mulitiplication in maths and making arrays. We have been learning to do our 2, 5 and 10 times tables. We ended the week by making our own array city. Look at our great maths work!

Visit to Paddington Children's Library: Monday 17th January 2022

Kingfishers had a fantastic visit to Paddington Children’s Library on Monday 17th January.  The librarian read us two stories then we got to choose two books each to borrow for our classroom for the term.

"My favourite part was when the librarian read the Blue Penguin story" - Shagaf

"I liked the trip, I found a really cool book about space!" - Sienna

“I liked all the books in the library. I found a book about Floella Benjamin who we learnt about in Black History Month" - Florence

"It was fantastic because there was a book all about LEGO!" - Sebastian

Our next visit to the library is on Monday 28th February. We can't wait but in the meantime we will have lots of fun reading the books we have borrowed.

Good morning Kingfishers!

Happy international space week! We've had a blast learning all about the different planets. This Thursday we also celebrated international poetry day, I was so proud of your performance in front of the school! You all performed with confidence and with a smile on your faces.

In maths this week, we have been busy starting our new topic: Addition and Subtraction. If you would like to practice this at home you can recap your number bonds to 20. We have also been busy creating our class display for our topic 'Growing Together'. You all did an amazing job with your writing. Check out the pictures to see some of your brilliant work!

Finally, a massive thank you to everyone for taking part in the School marathon. We have raised lots of money for our school and the children had great fun getting involved.

Take care,

Miss Pike

Friday 1st October 2021

Good afternoon!

We have had a mystery to solve in Kingfishers this week. We came into school on Tuesday to find that all of our books had mysteriously disappeared. Luckily, they left some clues to help us find out books. After, some brilliant detective skills we found out that Anansi the king of stories had taken our books!

In maths, we have been practising counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s ready to start learning how to count in 3s next week. If you would like to get a head start with this you can watch the video here:

Finally, this afternoon we have created some beautiful painting of flowers inspired by our book 'The Secret Sky Garden'. Have a look at the pictures below to see our masterpieces!

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Pike

Friday 24th September 2021

Good afternoon Kingfishers!

It has been another busy week in Kingfishers class. We have worked very hard in our writing this week and have created some fantastic information texts on why green spaces are so important. You should all be very proud! In maths, we have been practicing our place value to 100 and learning all about how to represent numbers on a place value chart. Then as a special treat at the end of the week, the year 6s came down to be our buddie readers. We had a lovely time reading with them.

Please also see the curriculum newsletter attached below for more information on what your child will be learning about this half term.

Have a lovely day,

Miss Pike

Hello Kingfishers!

What a brilliant week we have had in the Kingfishers. We have been working hard and doing lots of things. Our story this week was 'The Secret Sky Garden' where we taked about looking after the environment we are in and by doing so we feel so much better about things. In maths we have been learning all about place value to 100 and comparing numbers.

We've also been thinking about our families and the ways we show love and kindness to each other. Please find attached the presentation that we shared in our Welcome to Year 2 meetings this week.

PE is on Monday and Thursday.

The children were sent home with Log in details for Seesaw and Bug club. If you have any issues logging in please do not heistate to contact me via the office and I will do what I can to support.
