A Creative Curriculum

We believe the creative and skills based curriculum we offer here at St. Mary of the Angels  incorporates innovative approaches to teaching and learning.

Our 'Dimensions' curriculum covers Science, History, Geography, Music, Dance, Art, Drama, PSHE and DT through a thematic approach to learning, with applied maths linked in when appropriate. This means our pupils are inspired, motivated and challenged by more meaningful and linked learning. It also allows us freedom and ownership with regard to how we teach as well as guaranteeing we fulfil statutory requirements in terms of coverage. The core subjects of Religious Education, English and Maths continue to be taught discretely as is PE, Computing and Italian.

Partnership with Parents

Our 'Welcome Meetings' in September offer parents and carers the opportunity to meet their child's class teacher and to find out more information about the curriculum, year group expectations and class routines as well as ways to continue to support their child in their learning at home and at school.

Termly curriculum newsletters provide parents and carers with an overview of the themes being studied and curriculum links with English and Mathematics. We follow the ‘Come and See’ scheme for Religious Education (please click on the Religious Education tab for more information).

Parent Teacher Consultations in the Autumn and Spring term provide an opportunity for parents to meet with the class teacher to review their child's progress and targets. Detailed Records of Achievement are sent home in July and parents are offered the opportunity to meet with the class teacher to discuss the report if needed.
