Since September 2013, the staff team have been working in partnership with Elaine Sutton, from ‘Dimensions Curriculum Design’ to develop a creative primary curriculum model for the children of St. Mary of the Angels which incorporates innovative approaches to teaching and learning with rigour and high expectations.
A Creative Curriculum
We believe that together, we have developed a creative curriculum which is truly fit for purpose and closely linked to the Primary National Curriculum 2014.
Our 'DImesnions' curriculum covers English, Science, History, Geography, Music, Dance, Art, Drama, PSHE and DT through a thematic approach to learning, with applied maths linked in when appropriate. This means our pupils are inspired, motivated and challenged by more meaningful and linked learning. It also allows us freedom and ownership with regard to how we teach as well as guaranteeing we fulfil statutory requirements in terms of coverage. Subjects taught discretely are RE, Maths, PE, Italian and more technical aspects of the English Programme of Study.
Partnership with Parents
Teachers will be sending home curriculum newsletters each term which will give you an overview of the themes being studied and curriculum links with English and Mathematics which will continue to be taught discretely. We continue to follow the ‘Come and See’ scheme for Religious Education.
During our 'Welcome Meetings' in September, your child's class teacher and Key Stage Leader will provide you with more information about the new curriculum and how you can continue to support your child in their learning at home and at school.
