Chicks in Class!

We were learning all about the lifecycle of a chick and were so lucky to have chicks hatch in class! We got to hold the baby chicks and look after them for the last two weeks. The chicks are now leaving school and going home with Mrs Mourino to her allotment.

Easter Bonnet Parade

The Easter Bonnet Parade takes place in the playground on Wednesday 30th of March at 2:45. Your child can make and decorate their easter bonnet for the parade which is a lovely reminder of spring, new life and the joy of Easter. Here is an example of an Easter Bonnet.

St Mary of the Angels have been celebrating STEAM week which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths. This year's British Science Week theme is 'growth'. We have found examples of growth within all subjects around us, making it an excellent starting point for a celebration of SCIENCE. Continue sending in your posters based on this theme for our school competition. Your poster could explore a tadpole's journey into a fully grown adult frog or a seed's growth journey into a beautiful flower. We are looking forward to seeing your ideas!

More photos to follow.

World Book Day

The Sparrows had a fantastic day on Thursday celebrating World Book Day. We had lots of fun activities throughout the day and everyones costumes were amazing! We ended the day with a whole school Parade showing off all our lovely costumes.

As we are coming into spring we have turned our mud kitchen into a gardening centre for the children to learn about planting and growing. The children have planted some bulbs and herbs such as Daffodils, Oregano and more. We will keep you updated on how our garden grows over the next few weeks!

Gathering together makes everything more fun

It has been lovely to see the Sparrows problem solving and working together. Here they built a boat for all the animals in the Chinese New Years story to cross the river. What great team work!

Friday, 28th January

Hello Parents and Carers,
We hope you liked our Starry Night display. We've had lots of visitors from around the school coming to look at it who are very impressed with our Foundation Stages work. This week we have learnt about Simeon and Anna from the Bible. Simeon and Anna met the baby Jesus in the Temple and thanked God for sending his son to Earth. We acted out the story and said how we could be 'the light of the world' just like Jesus. We looked at old fashioned toys, just like the ball and cup. In the 'olden days' people used materials such as wood and string to make their toys. We followed step by step instructions to make our own ball and cup game. You could have a go at making your own one at home. Why not tell your family how you made it. Next week we will be assessing children's phonics knowledge. This will give us a good indication of what sounds and HRS (Harder to Read and Sound words) we need to practice. This week we will be sending the Blending Book 11 home again as it covers the new sounds that we have learnt this week. Please log into Bug Club for a new book as well. We are doing really well with our Maths lessons but practice makes perfect. This week we have sent home some activities that we have been doing in school. Please look at the videos for some ideas of how you could help your child at home.

Sparrow's update

Sparrows had a fantastic visit to Paddington Children’s Library today, Friday, 21st January.  The librarian read us two stories then we got to choose two books each to borrow for our classroom for the term.

Our next visit to the library is on Friday, 4th March. We can't wait but in the meantime we will have lots of fun reading the books we have borrowed.

If you are interested in joining the library please click here

We have also been studying the artist Vincent Van Gogh.

Did you know:

  • He only started painting at the age of 27
  • He only sold one painting while he was alive
  • He painted almost 900 paintings in 10 years

We hope you like some of the Sunflower masterpieces we have been creating.

What a wonderful week we have had in the Sparrows. We have been doing some wonderful things! Our story this week was 'Owl Babies' where we talked about mummy owl and her owlets. We've also been thinking about how God has made us all in his special image. Please find attached the presentation that we shared in our Welcome to Reception meeting this week.
